Thousands Attend Service For Fallen Maryland Firefighter

BALTIMORE - Gov. Martin O'Malley was among an estimated 3,000 who attended a funeral for a Baltimore County firefighter who died while fighting an apartment blaze last week.

A Mass was conducted Monday at Cathedral of Mary Our Queen for 43-year-old Mark Falkenhan.

The volunteer firefighter from Lutherville became trapped while searching for residents inside a third-story apartment during the four-alarm fire Wednesday night.

Falkenhan was a longtime Baltimore County firefighter and paramedic who retired from the department in 2006 but continued to fight fires in a volunteer capacity. He worked for the Secret Service.

This was a beautiful service. Thanks to all of the firemen that made the trip out to Baltimore! This is what true brotherhood is about.
