My youngest daughter moved to Charleston SC for an internship. Being my baby I've been going crazy with worry since we're 10 hours away in Delaware. She has no support system like family or friends in case something happens. Well her car started giving her probelms and I tried to get her to ask co-workers about mechanics in the area. Finally I had to think who could I get good trusted info on a mechanic from? So I called the Jones Island FD. I thought I had non emergency and freaked a little when she answered "Dispatch"

So after expleaning I'm a FF from Delaware and my daughter, etc, etc, she gave me a recommendation then passed me to another FF who gave me the same recommendation. He had the same issue with his car my daughter is having with hers. We chatted a little and I thanked them for the help.

I know they would have helped even if I didn't say I was a firefighter but its good to know the Fellowship is strong around the country. I've visited alot of stations and was always welcomed.

Any Stories of Fellowship around the county?

I visited a station in Toronto Station 311  (The Knights of Balmoral) on their 100th Anniversary and was treated like family. I also visited a fie staton in Cleveland,Oh and was looked down on by a fireman there. They all acted annoyed when we asked if we could tour their station. Very bad experience there. I can remember we asked what kind of gear they wore and he said" I don't know what ever they give us"

I may not be a firefighter but I have family in the fire/ems service and I was also a fire explorer when I was younger. Now I am a Volunteer Official Fire Photographer for my local paid dept. I have stopped by a few stations to say hi at their open houses or when personnel are outside and tell them why I stopped and a little family backround about members being in that field of work and end up being welcomed inside for a soda and to chat or to come inside for a full tour and talk about things.  I find that it is a very close bond that I am still honored to be part of.
