On Friday, across the entire state of Texas, fire departments have been asked by the state fire marshal's office, to stand down all activities and focus instead on reviewing safety training and SOP's.
Request made by state fire marshal’s office to departments across the state
HOUSTON (Houston Chronicle) - Fire departments across Texas will stand down Friday from routine duties to review basic safety training and standard operating procedures.
Although the request from State Fire Marshal's Office is not an order, Chris Barron, executive director of the State Firemen's and Fire Marshal's Association of Texas, which is assisting with the stand-down call, said he has received numerous confirmations after sending out more than 10,000 emails Tuesday.
What, if you are from Texas, specifically will you be reviewing?
If you are not from Texas, has your department held any training or discussions relevant to the Houston tragedy? Consider building construction; fire behavior; RIT, RIC or FAST training; accountability; and dealing with a line of duty death.

We are in Texas. Per the association's request we started today with a thorough review. We began with a review of the LODD's that have occurred this year, especially West's fertilizer plant explosion and Houston's collapse. We then reviewed many of our procedures and guidelines to make sure everyone is still on the same page. Finally we discussed the NFFF's 16 Life Safety Initiatives. There will be more tomorrow as we stand down from non-essential activities, but continue to answer calls. Everyone's taking this very seriously.
Thanks Norm. Let us know what your department focuses on today (Friday).

Mostly checked equipment and PPE more thoroughly than usual, especially SCBA. Weather is warming up, so rehab has been another topic of discussion.
We only meet on Monday night so with the start of wildfire season just around the corner for us, we'll be reviewing LCES, the 10 standard fire orders and the 18 watch out situations.
