Tee-Shirts some wear

I'm sure we have seen this shirt being worn by someone. I get a kick out of telling firefighters this shirt is a lie; and it is there job to do some butt kissing. They look at me like i have to heads. Try explaining to them this. How do you get the millions of dollars worth of equipment in your fire station? I get, we buy it. So where do you get the money from? I get, tax dollars, fund raising ect. So you still don't think you need to do some butt kissing then? Then normally they walk away. What's your take on this shirt?

Maybe it's not ass kissing in the normal sense, but the people who procure for the department, and nurture and develop the staff, have to be smart. Antagonisim not always the best course....

That being said, when folks say "I pay your salary" I say "Is this a bad time to ask for a raise?"

I don't like the shirt.

I wouldn't wear the shirt.

My job is to serve the public. In many ways. "Saving their asses" is only one part of it.

I've never actually seen a member of my department wearing it.

We dont wear these shirts. I would not allow one to be worn on my crew if we were headed up town for a pre plan or something.

I saw an EMS shirt that said to "drive slow or I get to see you naked".

I intensely dislike that shirt.

PR is all we have.

I wouldn't wear that one either. Difference is though it has a much truer statement and is pretty darn funny.

I wake up, eat three times per day, perform my duties as a firefighter and sleep. Two things, I don't kiss anyone's ass and I help people. I really don't care if anyone kisses my ass. As it says, my job is to save the public's ass. Not kiss it. The public should consider themselves lucky that they have career and volunteer firefighters to help them.

..........don't forget...... EMS, and police, and dentists, and search dogs, branches of military......etc.

I don't see what people think is attractive about these dumb shirts. These ' look at me' shirts that make the wearer feel they are something special or something. Just my opinion. Some person discovered a niche for clothing sales and marketing and hit it's target audience square on the mark.

I wonder if there's a shirt out there that just plainly says, " I just want to help people". After all, isn't that what it's all about? Not the false glory that those other shirts portray. Come on people.....sure, it's fun to be a firefighter, but try a little humble pie instead of thinking you're some super human or whatever. like I said, it's just my opinion. If people want to wear it, then have at 'er. I choose not to.
