Have you ever got a fire at about midnight, and after wards back at the station you get all the hose washed and hung up and trucks put away, then you get back home and in to bed at 09:00 and then someone calls you at 10:10 making a big deal that it's after 10 and your still in bed?

Not really. I don't even have to have a busy night and could go home and take a nap. The wife used to ask why I'm so tired all the time, but for me personally, it is a difference of sleeping at the station, keeping an ear open, vs at home where I can get a restful sleep.

Then again, this is my primary job and I can go home and crawl back in bed because those who would complain about me still being in bed, are usually working. Although I have asked those who do complain about such trivial things if they would like a phone call every time I go on a run in the middle of the night and call them when I get back in. Wierd how no one has taken me up on that offer.
That does solve the issue too, Jim.
Or even 3-4 people that call. And usealy it's right as your about to fall asleep.
And I dont like to shut off my phone, you know just in case. But usealy it someone wanting me to do something for them.
yes we have it was multipe brush fires that happend all day during the summers form uncontrolled burn
worse yet getting home after a major structure fire from 2am to 1230pm and the pager going off at 415pm for an MVA, lol
I'm with you Ralph, I simply turn off the phone. I usually have the media calling me if I dont. My people want to call me ? fine leave a message.
