What would be your size-up and initial actions?

Jason Szuch - House Fire on St. Route 81 in Ada, OH

What would be your initial alarm assignment and staffing?

What would be your size-up report?

Given the staffing in your area what would you expect to be reasonably accomplished in the first three minutes?

What additional companies would be arriving and what would their assignments be?

Our initial response would be our department plus an auto aid department. Response would probably be very similar to this department's, that is one engine on scene for at least a few minutes by itself. Usually can turn out 5 firefighters on the first engine. After that it depends on the time of day, week day/end, that sort of thing.

My initial size up would be: Single story residential structure with fire showing from the Alpha side. One line off starting an attack. We will be grabbing our own water.

The first three minutes would probably be spent trying to contain the fire. Due to the limited manpower we would have, all of our efforts would be spent there.

We would probably pull a box on this one, especially with a low manpower turnout. That would bring an engine, tender, RIT, and ladder truck to our scene.

We are a small rural volunteer department that runs a lot of mutual aid on structure fires.
