Below is a boiler plate example for communities coming on line with the new Reverse 911® system. Putting the responsibility on the public ensures that they had the chance to let us know how to find them. Coupling messages like this with reminders of how to address building / structure addressing will ensure rapid responses verses taking the time to find difficult rural addresses.

The Reverse 911® system is an automated community notification tool designed to enhance preparedness and facilitate urgent and necessary outbound communications to citizens during emergent events. One of its capabilities is to manually add a phone number to an address that does not already have an existing land-line, in order to communicate an emergency notification to the affected area.

Our Reverse 911® system is not able to allow a single number to be associated with more than one address in our county-wide database. If you wish to add phone information to our database, please fill below. Participation is voluntary, and your number will not be shared for any other purpose.

No single system or technology is perfect- Completion of this form cannot guarantee that you will receive timely notification in the event of a large scale community emergency, due to the unforeseen problems that such an emergency could create. Should such a situation arrive, it is important that you also continue to monitor other public safety warning systems whenever possible. It is important that you avoid calling 9-1-1 unnecessarily. Whenever possible, an alternate phone number or instructions will be provided for any questions. By filling out this form, you agree to these terms and conditions.

There is no need to fill out this form if you already have a "land-line" phone service provided by Verizon, unless you live in a very rural location. (PO Boxes will not work for Reverse 911 service)

We have looked at this type of system for a couple of years now. Bottom line is the cost and how we pay for it.
Yes, the costs are astronomical... but then again, there is the stimulus package stuff coming down the pike... At least it's got a chance of getting discussed if folks see this like yourself and ask questions. What better tool to have than a way to communicate with everyone in times of natural or manmade disasters, lost Alzheimer's patients or Amber alerts?

"Failure to prepare is preparing for failure... Be prepared!"
we have used it to evacuate folks from wildland fires and several Alzheimer's patients that got loose... key point about using them for wildfires... who's going to make the call, and how fast can they do it? without good recon, and when fires start at night, there will be a delay and that delay resulted in downed power lines, and the phones as well... it's a new system with many bugs still requiring extermination... in the case of wildland urban interface fires, the use of "air-raid" style civil defense sirens in the front country is not being bantered around. funny how we go back to old-school technology to fix the problems of the 21st century... : )
We have this up and running in my 911 center. We also use the system to notify the fire chiefs for the different districts about extreme weath conditions and other notifications. I feel it's a very versatile and usefull systdem. The problem was getting it set up, little hair pulling and lot's of swearing.
maybe my question here in this post should be who does NOT have reverse 911?
