Pink Heals Tour ( Pink Fire Trucks )
Hi all,
This year I will be taking part in this years Pink Heals Tour. The tour was started by Dave Graybill in Arizona. It's main purpose is to spread awareness for Breast Cancer to as many people as it can. It is our way ( Firefighters, Police ) of showing our support for those women battling, won, lost, or unable to stand up against this terrible disease. What the tour does basically, is goes across the country from Phoenix to Las Vegas in pink fire trucks, turnout gear to help spread awareness and support. I will be picking the tour up in Aug at the ICHIEFS conference in Chicago and traveling with it to Florence SC. We will be coming through Columbus OH ( once I have the exact date I'll advise for those near the Columbus area ).
I am asking that anyone able to, please visit www.pinkheals.com ( can also get more info on the organization ) and either purchase a shirt, hat, ect or simply donate a few bucks towards our cause. I know times have been rough economically, but I believe the highest priced item is $25-$30. We greatly appreciate anything anyone can do! Also, I would like to ask that if possible for at least 3 days in Oct ( 25th, 26th, and 27th ) or the whole month, that instead of wearing the blue uniform shirts, switch to pink. A few FD's in the south are now doing it and its a growing trend. At the VA here in Chillicothe OH, we will be switching for the three days to pink and I am in talks with my higher ups at Union Township for at least the Day Crew to switch for the entire month. The shirts would simply be pink tee shirts with Your dept logo on front and whatever you would like on back ( i.e.- your dept Care's Enough To Wear Pink ). I'm pretty sure everyone has been in one way or another affected by this disease, personally or not. If anyone has any questions, please feel free to contact me. To further add to this great cause, here is what I know also. I have spoken to and met Dave Graybill. He is a very passionate guy. This is not another one of those "raise money for breast cancer research, etc" groups. The main goal of the Pink Ribbon tour is to get pink fire stations built. Dave's ultimate goal is to have a pink firs station built in every state and then multiples in each state after that. The stations will be used as safe havens and spas for the women affected by breast cancer. The services will be free to them. He is not duplicating any efforts of any other group out there. He is truly an innovator with his ideas. The tour started with one donated truck. Last I checked they were up to at least three trucks. Dave has acquired the land and had plans for the first station. This is not only a great cause, but for once, it is something that makes the fire service shine.
Some of you may also remember a few years back some crazy guy hitting a golf ball across the country. This is the same crazy, passionate guy.

The Pink Heals tour recently was in my area last year , i have met Dave myself and he is a very passionate person and i still have a few shirts that i wear religiously to support them there has also been talks of one of our local stations of donating one of there retired trucks to the cause i am not sure where it stands

Men can and do get Breast Cancer as well - since they also have breasts.
Yes, it is less common, since they have less breast tissue - but it is a tissue specific disease that comes with all the extensive problems that a woman can suffer - but it is important to know, as it can come with the same death sentence.
My brother's wife's father, a 62 year old male, has breast cancer in both breasts. And my brother's wife is a survivor of breast cancer. And apparently when you have breast cancer in both sides of your family - male and female - it is exponentially more severe for the next generations - genetic influence.

Keep up the good work, Jim. My dept. is participating in a American Cancer Society breast cancer fundraiser next weekend at the Bowl For The Cure tournament. We are participating against other fire, ems and yes police depts/agencies. I kinda suck at bowling but am great for talking smack to the other teams!
