I didn't mean to try and hi-jack another post, so I will start my own. It was brought up that maybe firefighters should have manditory medical exams, I say go it a step further and have firefighters, vollie AND payed...yes PAYED participate in annual physical agilities as well. All I'm asking for is a walk thru of whatever YOUR department uses. It doesnt have to be world record or ba** busting...just a simple walk thru of a skills test.
Jake, we have done this for years. It is simple test based upon our State requirements for FF I certification. Actually we set this up as a drill also now an then. Its a fun drill that everyone enjoys and gets all involved. No biggy! I agree Jake. This should be done every year.
Nothing set in stone yet. But were working on it. Our captain is challenging us to walk on the treadmill at 3.5 mph starting at 0 incline and moving up 1 degree every minute until we reach 15. Then walk for 2 minutes at 15 and rest for 1 minute and do this 5 times. After the fifth time start decining back to 0. It kicks your butt. Guys are starting to try it and hopefully it works.
