Anyone have any information or tips on how to attach your Nomex Hood to your Turn-out Coat. I know alot of people are doing it and have heard of some sewing it and some pinning it on somehow. Any feedback or tips on either method would be great.
If you are worried about loosing it. Well then just stuff it under your helmet straps. You never forget your helmet do you?? And if you have 1 you have the other that way. In the winter I store 2 there because it gets might cold here at times. That way if 1 gets wet I always have a backp to keep my neck dry.
never heard of this. I always have one in my helmet webbing and one in my left pant pocket as a spare for those really cold nights and if my primary gets wet.
I have mine in my right boot (damnthing you are all backwards again)...and as with 'damnthing' I have never ever lost, misplaced or anything else my nomex hood. Just put it in the same place EVERYTIME and it becomes a habit. Hey maybe you can figure some fancy way for it to just roll down from your helmet...now that would be cool!
Modifying your turnout gear will probably invalidate the NFPA certification and the manufacturer's warranty. If you add a combustible item like velcro, you're asking for a burned neck.
The hoods are engineered as seperate items. Use them in the way they're designed if you want the safest gear configuration.
When we ordered our new gear a few years back, we had the option of having a Velcro strap installed to the coat for the Nomex. That's where I keep mine!
I'm with Jake, I keep mine in might boot. I've never forgot it or lost it. After the work is over it gets pushed down around my neck until we get back to the firehouse. And then.... back into my boot.
I myself have my nomex attached to my coat. I have Morning Pride Mfg co. attatch tabs of nomex so that I can take if off to wash it. Our liners detach from the outer shell. How I do this is simple for me because I live close to the Co. I take my coat and nomex hood to them they mark it while I have it on and then they sow the tabs on. It usually takes about 5-10 Mins for them to do this.
