No loops in crosslays

I was told recently that we are no longer allowed to have loops in our attack line crosslays. This rule came about from by standee getting killed from a crosslay coming off the engine.

Can anyone tell me if this rule is from NFPA or OSHA?

We don't use any long loops. We make ours just enough to get a gloved hand into and pull the whole the bundle out.

If we had any crosslay hose come off the apparatus while rolling, then that line was packed wrong.

The biggest thing here is how is the Hanny cross lay actually packed. Also what type of nozzle is at the end. If it is loose then it can slide off deploying the rest of the hose behind it. We have pistol grip nozzles on our cross lays and we wedge the grip between the layers of hose. Before we had the pistol grip nozzles we trapped the nozzle witha layer or two of hose on top
