New Hampshire Officials Encouraging New Sprinkler Requirement

MANCHESTER, N.H. - A new portion of the New Hampshire building codes will require that sprinkler systems be installed in all new homes.

WMUR-TV says the New Hampshire State Building Code Review Board voted to require sprinklers in every newly constructed single- and two-family home and town house starting in 2012.

Fire officials say the requirement could save lives and property.

Durham Fire Chief Corey Landry says sprinklers are like putting a firefighter in each room of your home.

Bert Cox of the New Hampshire Real Estate Investors Association says sprinklers will add costs, but the industry will comply.

State lawmakers have two years to challenge the ordinance.

Outstanding it's the cheapest life/property insurance you will ever get.
I say, it's about time. I also ran across this story.

PATTERSON, N.Y. (December 17, 2009)– The National Fire Sprinkler Association (NFSA), the longest-tenured fire sprinkler advocacy organization in the U.S., announces that Pennsylvania will require all newly constructed townhouses to contain a residential fire sprinkler system starting January 1, 2010 and in all newly constructed one- and two-family homes effective January 1, 2011.
