The tone go's out for a report of a room and contents fire at a large 6 division hotel. There are multiple reports of heavy black smoke coming from the A side 4th div no fire showing at this time. You arrive on scene at the same time as engine 1, engine 2 and truck 3(quint). the officer on engine 1 notifies you there is now heavy black smoke with a yellowish tint billowing from the C side of the 5th div. By now heavy rescue 4, engine 5 and ladder 6(no pump). what will you do to put this fire out and what will you do to get as many victims out alive???

FFN

lol yea i'm not that good at spelling

"I" need help on my english English project, its it's on incedent incident command

I'm not following the project aspect at all. You are creating a scenario to illicit comments on, on what one would do. What does that have to do with an English project at all? If this is an English project, wouldn't the goal of such a project be to describe what incident command consists of, variations of it, the history of it, and so forth? I would assume if this is an English assignment, for a class, that this is not a fire service related course or school.....of which why would it matter what the scenario is about and comments regarding the scenario? What does that have to do with an English project? I would assume an English project grade would consist of what you write and compose and not how a scenario is run.

first off i now know why your last name is crabbe second off im going to use improper grammar just to piss you off third my english teacher wanted me to do this to get info on how the professionals do things forth i think your sick picking on a jr firefighter fifth im a jr firefighter not an attention whore like you!!!!!! sixth why would i even want to illicit comments thats stupid!!!

Wow, John will you quit picking on this lad!

This is how I would handle it. I would get on the scene and call dispatch and have them dispatch John's Department to respond and then drive away. Just because we don't have this amount of equipment in our department.

Thank you soo much Derek i appreciate your reply... why would you drive away wouldn't you want to stay to secure the scene and insure the safety of others

I would stay. Because I would like to meet John Crabbe in person.

ahhahahahaha now i see what you did!!

All kidding aside I would not be able to answer this scenario for you right of the top of my head. We have 2 pumpers 1 tanker 1 rescue and a squad. So I suppose I could think about this scenario for awhile and give you the best answer I can. If that will help you any.

Albert, grow up, and pay attention.

First and foremost, you asked for help on an English assigment and when the Webteam advised to use "spellcheck", your reply was "lol i'm not that good at spelling". Seriously, consider that aspect foremost. You are doing an ENGLISH assignment and you just laugh off the aspect that you aren't good at spelling? Do you not see the irony? Seriously, why should a single person here consider helping you when you don't seem to care in the first place? It is an English assignment where spelling, grammar, etc count and you just want to laugh it off. Why should anyone take you serious if you don't portary an aspect of caring about your own work?

Secondly, I could care less if you choose to use improper grammar and spell like a second grader, it isn't going to piss me off, but it sure impedes your chances in the future. I could care less that you are a jr FF, that had nothing to do with my reply, you DO realize there are English assigments in college too, right? That being said, do you plan on being a career FF someday, or at least have a decent job.....or is that something to just laugh off too? Do you think an employer is just going to laugh off spelling and grammar on a resume because you don't seem to care? No, they will pass you right on over.

Gee, Albert, why would you ask a question at the end of your scenario if you weren't trying to illicit comments? What was your reason to ask the question then? If your teacher said to go with such a thing, what does that have to do with your overall project? What is your GOAL here?

I am seriously asking in order to try to help you out here. What you are asking is to illicit comments on a scenario for an English project on incident command, for a teacher I'm guessing is not a FF. So what is the purpose? If you get 20 different answers to your scenario, what does that do for your assignment on IC? All it shows it that there are no standard answers and incident command expands or contracts with any given incident. For Derek's dept, the IC set up may be much different from mine, what mine is can be much different from someone else.

I will throw a bone here for you to take seriously, so don't try to come up with quips because you don't like my response so far.

Strategy, Tactics, Task.

Strategy is the IC level.....what is the overall goal?

Tactics is how to do it......If this is a highrise, are we using standpipes? ladder pipe? entry off an aerial? rope rescue? etc...such decisions are at a company level for the most part.

Task....get it done. This is the FF doing the job. If rope rescue is needed....set it up, using an aerial...get it up and so forth.

There are so many ways to handle this scenario there really is no right or wrong, so again I don't see the use in soliciting how to mitigate the scene helps your overall project. Furthermore I have no clue in what the heck you are talking about with a "6 division" hotel. What you may be thinking and what I could be thinking can be completely different and thus the strategy and tactics can vary significantly. So again, why concentrate on such a scenario rather than expand on the levels of IC from being a first due aspect to how it can grow, morph into a unified command, and then decrease, all depending on the incident? Wouldn't that better accomplish the assignment goal on explaining IC as opposed to what others here say about your scenario?

Albert, After reading and rereading this scenario I really am having a hard time coming up with how I would handle this scenario. And just out of curiosity what does this have to do with IC?

Here is my problem. I'm not sure what a 6 division hotel is. Is it a 6 story building or is there 6 different buildings with rooms. Is there hydrants? Is it a windy day? Is it a Snowy day? Is it 2:00am or 2:00pm. All this will make a difference on how I would run the scene initially. John or Moose or anyone else on here would most-likely run it another.

So basically you are asking a bunch of guys on here that are from small towns in small departments to tell you something that we really can not answer truthfully. Not that we don't know the jobs of the Truck-Ladder and engine companies do. We just do not have these type of resources. You have more FF's showing up then some departments have members.

Most of use don't have motel's this big in our districts.

One of the guy's that could help you out and I have respect for on his comment's; you just went and tried to offend. I'm not sure where you came up with this scenario or what it has to do with Incident Command but maybe you could shed some light on it for us. Maybe you could tell us if this project is about Incident Command or a report on "If I was the Commanding Officer at this Scene. What would I do."
