I'm in the process of restoring a 1968 international 4 door station wagon... But it has engine problems, the rest of the vehicle is in pristine condition. The motor is a V-8 but it could be one of 3 made for that car according to the door plate. The problem is it doesn't state which one it is I need to find someone who knows international vehicles and there engines. I.H.C. was no help as no one there knew anything about the vehicle or its engines, hell they made it, you would atleast think they would have archived the info. If anyone know's or can ID the following vin. # please let me know. # 212107H786559 WGT. 4100 lbs., International Station Wagon.
Thanks All,
Bob
I am presuming you are talking about the Travelall which was IHC's version of a Suburban. The Scout was the smaller Blazer type. The 304 (5.0) and the 345 (5.7) were the two most common engines. The 345 was only produced with a 2 barrel carb.
I'm not sure about the 68, but on 72 and later, the engine size was stamped on the block. Look on the right side (passenger) of the block below the head and exhaust manifold. There may be a flat spot about the size of a domino with the CID stamped.
Thats correct it is the travelall, its also the low top ambulance version, mfg. by IHC and sold by IHC but converted by Springfield Ambulance Builders. It is the original engine as is the rest of the car, it has the 2 barrel carb. but no stamped CID on the block or anywhere else. My bet though its the 345 as thats one of the numbers on the door plate. 302- 345-304 in that order are on the door plate. Anymore thoughts on this Oldman.
Thank you,
Bob
Everything I can find all says pretty much the same. Look for the stamping above and just to the rear of the fuel pump. It probably will be buried under gunk. As best I remember, there is not a lot of difference between the 304 and 345. Tune up specs are almost identical.
I ran across this group which might give you some help.
