I am looking for a microphone for a Kenwood VHF radio that you can wear under a SCBA. We found one supplier and they said they dont sell them anymore. Just wondering what everybody else uses. By the way the unit Im looking for consists of the ear piece and the tube that picks up the vibrations from your throat. Thank you all in advance.

I assume this is for Hazmat as the last thing you would want around your neck in a house fire is a plastic microphone. I use an external talk box with a connection to my radio.
The "throat mike" concept had been tried, as have other different types of earpieces. The problem lies with the fact that the earpieces are silicone and melt. plus the movement of working while wearing a hood causes the earpiece to dislodge. Most of the wiring melts at a lower temperature, and unless you have a voice activated mike, (which causes a host of other issues) you must still manually push the talk button.

These devices are still available aftermarket (ebay) for various radio manufacturers and types. I have several different types that I have tried over the years, and they really are not worth spending the money on. Stick with the dreaded external speaker/mike. Just my opinion
