I have a minitor III and I'm looking to get a IV or V. The III definatly has its flaws. I can't promise to buy any now, but if anyone has one up for sale , I might be your buyer. Also inform me if you can program it .

Stay away from the fours. Go to the fives. There all programable
def. get a 5
Go with the minitor 5. We use them in our dept and they are fully programable. Ours have 2 channels fire and ems plus they are set up with 3 tones. Fire, BLS and an all county tone. cant go wring with them. Mine lasts about 4 days on a charge and thats running it open to hear everything....
We can program them via the computer...there is a program that will do this very easily....You might want to check e-bay as they sometimes have them fairly cheap....Paul
I would say there isnt much difference between the 3's 4's n 5's the 3 n 4 are limited for there functions but the 5 has alot of extra functions..its nice it will talk to you to tell you what channel you have it selected too..I have the playback voice memory but not too thrilled with it...if the tones are long and get lots of tones then you don't get the message that you really want to hear...just what i have experienced..i like the style and the build of them..but hey long as it alerts ya to the emergency it doesnt matter what it is long as it works...a pager is a pager...take care all be safe out there...
I would say go with a five. I have one along with several other guys on my dept. We do not have the problems with them as we did with the threes or fours. They have an outstanding coverage range as to where they will go off. I can be up 30 miles away from the tower we get the page from and still hear it fine. As stated before the battery will last for a couple days.
I like my 4 never had a problem wth mine.
It is advised NOT to get the fours. They are complete junk...Some like the 5's and some Don't. Good Luck! Prob best staying with ur 3
BUt I bought it my self. It is not a Dept Issued one.
Need , no. Do I want one that works correctly, YES. And YES, my dept does not care because there is no official JR program. I'm the only minor out there. I just prefer a pager over a portable radio.
Because there is no actual JR program, I am the only minor involved with the dept. And they can't be going off and buying a $500 pager for someone that is not a complete member. So I do it myself
As part of a communications workgroup, we were asked to identify a preference in current pagers on the market. The 5's got the nod. Yes, they are a bit larger and heavier due to a more durable case. We also preferred the new battery set-up with the Li-on - longer run time, no memory problems. We like the programming flexibility, combined wide/narrow band multi-channel options, additional tone sets and alerting choices, the knobs are much more durable than on the 3's or 4's, the pagers are louder before distorting than previous units. We also like the improved charger/receiver amplified base for our more distant members. It seems the big M may have recognized the market was starting to offer more choices and came up with what we feel is an improved product as compared to the last two models. Not gospel, nothing very high-tech, just our 2-cents worth; good luck!
