Massachusetts Fire Department Allowed to Hang Christmas Sign

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. - North Andover town leaders have rediscovered their Christmas spirit.

Five days after ordering firefighters to take down a "Merry Christmas" sign that has adorned the fire station during the holidays for a half century, the town gave the go-ahead to hang it back up on Wednesday.

The 2-foot by 4-foot wooden sign made by firefighters 50 years ago was ordered down after a complaint to town hall and because of lawsuit fears.

The decision caused a national furor, and prompted petitions and protests outside town hall.

Fire Chief William Martineau tells The Eagle-Tribune putting the sign back up has "put a little joy back in the holidays."

The Board of Selectman on Friday will reconsider its decision limiting the placement of a menorah on the town common to one day.

I'm predicting this thread won't get close to the number of replies as the other.
We go allout on some of our fire stations. Station 5 always wins the christmas light contest.
Well, add mine to the list! Congratulations guys!

And MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

Jesus is the reason for the Season!

Peace on Earth and Goodwill towards all men!
Well that's good. Sensitive people need to get it through their heads that a decoration does NOT compel them to follow a religion, and if they get offended, that's their problem. On a related note, on the last day of Ramadan, I'm hanging a sign that says "There is but one God, Allah, and Mohammed is his prophet." from the front of city hall. I would like to thank the city council for supporting me on this, and the citizens for the tax money used to hang and illuminate the sign.

BTW my idiot brother would like to install a Festivus Pole. Now that we allow religious displays, I guess he gets to do that. I can't wait until the Wiccians want to put up a pentagram. Fortunately, I will "get over" my offence at such an overt display of what I consider blashemous on public property using public funds.
Thank you. Now, let the Rabbi put his menorah out for the entire 8 days, too.
Well Good ... Merry Christmas To All!
