How to handle a patient that tells two storys one to me and one to the EMS crew. We have a new frequent flyer that tells me one story when I am there. When the EMS crew arrives and I start to relay info she contradicts most of the info she just gave me. It makes me feel and look like an a**. Why she does it I don't know, But she has had a problem with the fire dept in the past over illegal burning that IDEM was called. This was years before my time on the dept.

Now I am trying to think of what to do.

1. I am a volunteer just don't go on that call when paged? This goes against everything I believe most of the time I am the only Fire Dept EMS on scene.

2.Just take relay vitals let EMS transport company get the rest on there own? Pretty sure they know whats going on by the looks on there faces.

Should I note it in the narrative when I do the report to help cover my rear. Got a feeling she might be sue crazy.

She has also told us in the past when she wants to go to the ER for something its faster to call 911 because you get seen as fast as you arrive.

No, Heather I have old man Tom with me most of the time. He is 70 and just a driver and gofer but he is crabby enough for both of us. He has been around for awhile and earned it. Oh EMS always takes 20 minutes to get there. After I always get calls from officers ask did you have fun on that call. That must be why my eye twitches and I shake like hell.
How did you know it is chest pain? Thats where it starts when I tell EMS, She says no the pain its in my head or lower back.
As far as probies and family lying to you - I say punish them - HARD AND FAST !!!

Why do people lie - they do what works!!!

So it must get their needs met... to lie to you !!! hmmm....
hmm....

HIPAA

careful...

don't keep her patient documentation at home
I bet she laughs about YOUR visit for days...

"Oh, Oh, those cute firemen/ems workers show up in their handsome little outfits and they are so nice to me... and since I am a little old cranky lady, I am going to screw with them..."

NOW on a serious note - FEMALE cardiac problems present differently than a male cardiac problems - with symptoms that are more transient and more indescribable. Medical FYI

P.S. How did I know it started with chest pain - because I have picked up 500 little old ladies just like her...
No they get an ass chewin and I tell them what I really know whats going on. So they avoid me for awhile.
Lie to me and I take it as an insult. Make a mistake and I take it as a learning experience something to build from, not something thats always bad.
Now Ralph - you and I have talked about YOU sitting on the patients - and the inappropriate nature of said actions - without an appropriate invitation from the lady... SOOOOOOO What should your punishment be ???? hmmm...
well, ok, do what works... but I have a whip if you need it... and I am just a few short hours away...

have whip... will travel ;-)
of course I have handcuffs.. what kind of question is that...

you act like you hardly know me ;-)

Barbie, aye - tell me in the Back Room :)
JJ, Dolly needs a'lickin

ROTFLMAO x's 100

that was great

you just can't make this stuff up !!!

truth is stranger than fiction.... hee hee
Cool and just why do you have a whip? Indiana Jones fan?
Ralph we don't carry a 12 lead, BLS only. Yep they always get the standard treatment. ABCs, vitals, SAMPLE questions maybe a baby asprin if there is a EMT on scene. Oh and always O2 @ 15 liters via nonrebreather unless COPD then 2 liters via nasal cannula. Then baby sit until someone higher on the EMS food chain arrives.
Indiana Jones & DEVO - both are true...

"When a problem comes along
You must whip it
Before the cream sets to long
You must whip it
When somethings goin' wrong
You must whip it
. . .
Whip It Good !!!"
