Lack of Respect Because of Your Gender?
check out my Females in the Fire service Group. I am not man bashing at all. I am just stating that i believe women that can do the job deserve equality!!! I do understand that there are women out there that cant...'cuz I have them on my department TOO, however those are the ones that give chics like me who love to get dirty and get hot ( in a fire the that is) a bad name. Tell me your thoughts.

When I am in the grocery store, I can feel their stares. I can see them "undressing" me with their eyes. I can hear the sexist comments that they are making to the other women. They drop things and ask me to pick it up for them. They gasp as they wait for my tight butt to press against the seat of my jeans. In the frozen food section, they stare at my chest, because the nipples on my perky little man boobies are trying to escape from my T-shirt. I can hear words like "headlights" and "radio knobs"; it's all sooooo degrading. I go to the check out. The lady behind the counter says that she will give me a "discount" if I...I can't say it! I consider it for a moment, but decline. I'm not that kind of guy. As I go to my car, I hear the cat calls and whistles. I just want to get to my car and cry. I wish that I hadn't been cursed with my good looks. I mean; I work out, I wash my face at bed time, I try not to furrow my brow and I avoid greasy foods.
Is it too much to ask that I just be treated the same as anyone else? I'm 55 and some still regard me as their "eye candy".
I'm a human being and we should all be treated the same!
OH, LOOK; IT'S MEN'S NIGHT. MEN DRINK FOR HALF PRICE!(wink)

Time to put my turnouts and my tie-die hood on its getting deep. Pink hood or not I WOULD ATTACK HELL ITSELF WITH ALANA AT MY SIDE!!!! I also would put her up against the haters. Being the male pig that i will no doubt be called i like being seen with a pretty one rather than a butch. Our department has 40 people with 10 women and i would not trade a single one we are all the same pink,tie-dye,flame,black,white or striped hood. What about the black tan and yellow turnouts which ones are the right ones??

I HAVE BEEN IN THIS SERVICE FOR OVER 30 YEARS AND MY WIFE OVER 25 YRS AND 3 DAUGHTERS IN ABOUT A YEAR AND I AGREE WOMEN SOULD BE TREATED EQUALLY AND IN MY DEPT THEY ARE
WE ALSO HAVE THE HUSBAND CHASERS TOO LOL

I hear you all the way!!!! I know a girl who is very underqualified who is working or should i say pretending to work at a fire dept. in my area in south ga. she doesn't pay any attention to what she is doing nor does she do her best to help her fellow firefighters!! she is going to get someone very badly hurt one day.. This does give us women a bad name because i love to get out there and do my best i love to get dirty and am always wanting to learn something new!! I try my very best to watch out for all my family!! And I am not afraid to help anyone whenever it is needed!! I am sick of lazy women and men who give us all a bad name!! folks this job is not for you get out now before you get someone killed!!!!!

ok I have to reply to the pink hood. My mom has one. She rarely wears it, but she keeps it around as a spare. She first got it at the last dept. she was on because there were some guys that regularly lost their gear and would just take everyone else's. She got the pink hood and they never touched her gear after that. My dad actually works for a company that sells all those nifty colored hoods.

Here in our state, we have a "pre-sumptive" illness law and I believe that it covers ANY illness that can be presumed to have been caused by your employment. In the case of firefighters and that's ANY firefighter, if you have been one for at least five years and develop an illness not previously diagnosed, you can collect medical and other benefits afforded under our workers' compensation act.
I would be willing to bet that any effort to exclude certain gender specific illnesses could be met with a discrimination action.

Would you also get rid of the men who cant and the senior FFs, what about the juniors, ask them to come back when they are older? If a volunteer is willing to give their time, even if they can't keep up with the physical demands, there is still plenty to do which can free up a trained FF to do what they do best, man or woman. I happen to work in a fire department that is very pro woman. My Chief pushes me to learn as much as I can't, whenever I can. The other FFs are also supportive. I have been a vollie for 8 years and paid for 1 year. It has taken a while for me to understand how a GREAT Cheif can find FFs abilities and use them to the max. There are not enough of us out there to eliminate anyone who is physically & mentally fit enough to do something. Please try to find it in your heart to look at what these people can do instead of what they can't do.
