Kentucky Firefighters Threaten to Quit Over Absent Chief
RYLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - A volunteer fire department that provides fire protection and ambulance service to part of Kenton County is in turmoil with most members threatening to quit.
A Ryland Heights Community Volunteer Fire Department officer told The Kentucky Enquirer 13 of the 19 volunteers have said they will leave if the fire chief doesn't resign or face impeachment.
Firefighter/EMT Stacey Rust said Chief Jim Crouch neglected his duties by being absent from the department for much of the winter. Crouch told the newspaper by telephone that assistant chiefs have been running the department and were in communication with him in Florida.
Rust said the volunteers took their complaint to the fire department's board of trustees on March 12.
The district covers the cities of Ryland Heights and Fairview and some of the unincorporated area of Kenton County.

Im not so sure there is more to this. Last year we had a chief that got a job about 4 hours from here. The pay was good and he was supposed to be home every weekend. Thats how it started anyway, you can see where this is going he stopped showing up at all and stayed in the city 4 hours away. Even though there was phone contact it did not work with him being gone and others trying to fill in as best they could. We finally went to the mayor and city council with our issue and they were clueless as to what had been going on. Long story short you cant lead from several hundred or thousand miles away. We now have a new chief and are gratefull for the full time leadership.
