I am 30 yrs old with 6 Yrs on the job with 25 to go and facing hip resurfacing,/possible replacement due to osteonecrosis. What i need to know is case studies of firefighters keeping there job after a joint replacement or resurface. If anybody knows anything on this or has some support information please let me know.

As for hips, I can't say. But I do know Knees...bilaterally have been done with excellent results and return to work in six months or less.

I would say that your departments insurance writers woud put you through a job-specific battery of tests to measure you ability.

Once you get some legit medical info...get a lawyer.
With modern procedures and techniques there should be no reason that you can't return to work....But, I will tell you through experience that you will only do as good as your Doctor and You are prepared to do...that is a heck of a committment on your part for the PT involved...it isn't going to be easy or pleasant at times.....I am sure you will do fine.....Paul
