I was just curious how many of us actually have a significant other in the fire service. Do you agree or disagree with each other in general firefighting? My boyfriend is very active and that is how I got started. If your significant other is not part of the fire service are they supportive of you ???

My significant other is an active EMT-Basic with the local rescue squad and used to be active in the VFD but it really wasn't her cup of tea. In her day job she works for the Virginia Office of EMS and handles training for emergency operations such as disaster response and mass cassualty incidents....she is also deployable and was deployed to the Pentagon on 9/11 and several other in state disasters. She also teaches EMT as a part time job.

I am a career firefighter from a fire service family.

I met my wife actually in middle school but we did not date until she was in college. She knew from day one that my family was a fire service family and that was what I was going to do....she is extremly supportive and is also a good sounding board....we have 2 kids and I truly consider her the perfect wife.

When we were members of the local VFD together and even after she decided that it wasn't for her and we only saw each other on EMS runs, I have always enjoyed running class with her. She is one of the best EMS providers I have been anround and her knowledge is uncanny the only reason she is not a paramedic is becuase I can't seem to stop getting her pregnant lol. Now that we have kids though I do worry that something could happen to both of us and there fore have stopped volunteering. I already had my career job so it was only fair for me to be the one to leave the volunteers this will reduce our chances of getting hurt at the same time and the same incident.
My wife is very supportive of my role and involvement in the fire service. After 28 years I have to say that I couldnt have done what I have without her support. Obviously as I am the Fire Chief her role within the Department is a support role there too. Her and other wives/ significant others work on social events and major incident support.
Through two children being raised including all thier activities she has stuck with me and supported me. Yup! I am a blessed guy.
My wife is our depatments fire chief.

Agree? "Hell we are married!" We agree most of the time.

Supportive? Yes.....she said I could say that. It is her world and she lets me live in it!!!!!!!!

Honestly, we work well together.
