Just a question that has been on my mind for awhile....Is there a Firefighter or Fire Service Frat? Like for anyone to join ie. Pro and Vol. F/F's. If not think we can start one up and how to do it? Once again just a question.
There really isn't a frat for the fire service, there are different organizations that firefighters can belong to. For instance in WI, we have the WI Firefighters Assn, where anyone can join, there is conventions and some classes involved, but not really much of a "frat" experience. On the career side of things there is the union the IAFF, down to the individual locals. Not really a frat per se, but a membership organization. On the career side we also have the Professional Firefighters of WI (PFFW) which is comprised of locals around the state.
For the most part, the reason for these groups is to focus on firefighter issues, most are politically driven in nature to push for pro FF legislation, look at ways to improve safety, provide training, charitable events, etc.
I never been affiliated with a frat before, but there are different associations throughout individual depts, to state associations and so forth that have the same feel a frat could provide. In some events, there are also those who do get stupid like a frat would too, but for the most part there are plenty of things out there to give you that sense of affiliation a frat would.
BTW...I see by your profile you are in the Navy. Are you on a ship or shore duty? I tried to get on with Hampton FD when I was stationed there, but was on the Truman at the time and couldn't commit to the necessary training to get one.
