Seeing as there are over 47,000 of you on here now and I got on somewhere around page four or so, I haven't had a chance to meet many of you yet.  I've got a little group I'm pretty happy with over at Cancel The Engine and I have a blog going at Firehouse Zen that I welcome you to check out.  That all being said, I'm leaving an open invitation to friend me here on my Firefighter Nation profile or over on Facebook.  Note that I've made it all easy for you with links and all.

My interest on here is to network.  I'm not trying to score points or anything like that.  I just happen to have the desire to share what I have learned in thirty years of leading high-functioning teams and the desire to learn what you see in your own world as well, whether you are a junior, a probie, or the crustiest jake on the street (or even a genuine coffee-cup toting chief officer like me).

So the door is open, I enjoy hearing from people, and although I'm not into dragging out conversations on the color of helmets and stuff like that, I'm wide open to discussions on change management, visionary action, and the future of emergency services as a whole.  Like the Kodak people were probably saying when digital photography went through the roof, "We need to be thinking ahead to the next step."  If you aren't thinking about what has the potential to be around the next corner, you won't even know it when it runs you over.

So I'm looking forward to meeting you, come on by and check out Firehouse Zen, and feel free to say something.  Don't be shy.  I haven't bitten anyone today that you know of.

That sounds interesting. I'd like to hear more about that job. Thanks for introducing yourself!
Engine....nuff said.
On one? Want one? Took picture with one? We'd like to hear more about your engine.
Hi Mick... Ron Ayotte, Deputy Chief, Group 3, Marlborough Fire Department in Marlborough, MA.

I've been a "crusty old jake" for 29+ years ( it will be 30 years in November.. who woulda thunk it?)

I was a firefighter for 7 years, LT for 12, Captain for 6 and Deputy for the last 4.

I am on the "board of directors" and a moderator at the International Association of Crusty Old Jakes website, www.iacoj.com

We pride ourselves on keeping conversations on topic and respecting each other.. We wold love to have you as a ember (if you are already one, please post!)

Art Goodrich, aka Chief Reason aka the Voice of Reason is one of our moderators and fellow board member. Rumor has it that some of our members are the inspiration for "The Adventures of Jake and Vinnie..."
Ron,

I know who you are and I am (was?) a member, but like so much of my life, just as I catch one end up I lose another. I'll jump over and say hi if my login still works and if not, I'll let you know so you can hook me up again.

Thanks for the re-invite!
Okay, so maybe I'm not a member anymore...
Mick:
A few years ago, we had to "close" the old jake site for the new one.
You may just need to re-set the password in your profile.
You remember truck6alpha don't you? :-)
Dave Leblanc is site admin.
He can probably hook you up.
Seeing that my most favorite people on the FFN are all here on Mick's post, I thought I would reintroduce myself as well. Now that my world has simplified so very much, I have now openly posted my name on my profile verses the more vague "Captain Busy" title that I have been using to date. I am now in the full swing of being a retired old guy, and to be honest, it's not bad...

I've been absent here on the FFN for awhile due to the requirements of being retired and having to fulfill obligations focused on having a lot of fun and traveling, maybe even some camping under the stars. Have I mentioned that retirement is everything you heard about and more?

And as far as being busy, I just accepted an offer to work as a consultant for ABC's Gray's Anatomy for fire, rescue, hazmat... you know, the stuff we do. Hollywood is only 100 miles away from my casa. This is a story that I will share once it actually happens...

This was my 39th year volunteering as a medic / driver for the local community college geology department. Every summer I participate on a 16-day trip from Santa Barbara to Arizona, Utah, Colorado, back through all the national parks in Utah, into Nevada and back to California. I highly recommend other firefighters to get involved with there local colleges, offering your expertise and knowledge when things go wrong... and they do occur in some pretty remote locations... like Monument Valley...

Take care,

Mike
It's good to call you Mike again.
But it seems you have been busy.
Glad retirement agrees with you.
Nice scenery.
TCSS.
Art
Some of that looks familiar having just been through Zion, Bryce and the South Rim. Good to see you again, Mike.
If you are a white hat then I am sure that we haven't met.....well, even though you are white hat handicapped you are always welcome to drop a line or if in this neck of the woods to drop in for a cold one and share a war story or two...
