What can I do to decipher between schools that offer an OK program and an excellent program? Mainly when it comes to what school will offer the best knowledge and experience. Maybe there are certain keywords I should look for in courses? Or certain course names that are important to look for?  Are Their certain courses that are a lot more neccessary than others? Are there courses that repeat information and then makes them rhetoric? a good idea? Any one have any ideas or wisdom they would like tp pass down to a young rookie school  F.F school looker.
Thanks for your help.

OK, you are in New berlin according to your profile. There are a few WI tech schools close to you offering a fire protection degree, Milwaukee, Gateway, Waukesha, Madison, each and every one has a good program. These are Associate degree programs geared to giving you the essential info to obtain an entry level job as a FF. Out of those, look at other aspects of what are offered, some do an internship with area fire departments, some don't, but there may be live in opportunities available.

If looking for a higher eduction there are bachelor degree programs also available, but best chances to get in those is to already have an associates. There are bachelor programs in Southern Illinois University (campus in Chicago burbs) as well as Oshkosh.

My advice would be to look at one of the tech schools mentioned. Most offer you the necessary certs you need and a degree. If there isn't an interniship offered, look at getting on with a dept. Also look at obtaining your paramedic certification, typically an additional year at one of the same schools, a degree in Fire science with associated certs, and a paramedic cert are great to have to land you an entry level FF job.
My opinion only... the best fire academy in Southern California is located in Oxnard at the Camarillo Airport.

Oxnard Regional Fire Academy

Folks like LAFD, LaCoFD and other large departments including Phoenix & Dallas FD's recruit folks right out of this academy, which is one of the top rated fire academies in the nation.

Good luck,

Hey thanks for the quick reply it definately narrows down my goal in sight for me.
There was one more college I was wondering about. Its sinclair in dayton Ohio.
I was living in ohio up until january. and actually havent changed my address yet. Everyone around the area said Sinclair was superb college for fire health and medical degrees. Any thoughts on it?
why didnt you tell me about that when I was lookin around lol well to late now its already done

Depends on how much you want to spend to land a job. The school may be a good school, but is this a public or private school? Either way you will probably spend more on a semester there than a two year associates from a tech school here.

The other issue depends upon what your motivation is. If you are looking to just land a career job, then I would suggest the tech school option. If you are looking to one day be a chief or something I would suggest looking into a 4 year school. However, a bachelors is easier to obtain after an associates and you may not be spending money on classes that have no bearing on the fire service, but schools make you take to become "well rounded". Tech schools gear you towards the necessary requirements for the job and typically with the certifications needed that most departments look for. An associates coupled with a paramedic cert can be a much better chance of landing the job than a 4 year degree.

Make no mistake though, you will not be walking out with a degree and onto a fire dept and not be starting at the bottom.
I did tell you! Didn't your read my extensive post to Frederick? Everything was documented and outlined for what one needs to do... oh wait a minute, it was deleted... sorry

Looks like you need to look at the other website Loyd, you know Firefighter Network Jr... This is the new site that does not allow posts to be deleted and caters to the needs of those under the age of 18.

Alright thanks for the quick reply. Duelly noted. Ill be checking out colleges and technical schools. I was just ont he Sinclair website. And couldnt believe the tuition was only 46 dollars per credit hour for there local county residents.
That's funny, and what's funnier is that you were probably in diapers when I was in my academy... ah... perspectives... Still cracks me up to think that kids in this picture can pose here on the FFN. We are all equals on the internet, right? CBz

but if you want to see my certs just look em up ONLINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The question is all about placement and what departments hire from the specific fire academy. I'm not sure how much NoCal FD's pay, but the SoCal departments typically have higher salaries, which in the long run is a key consideration for a firefighter candidate deciding on where to put down there roots...
totally enjoyed the video post, thanks!
