Hurricane Sandy
These past 8 days have been exhausting and tiring for our 49 crew here in Long Beach Island, NJ
The past 8 days we have been responding to calls 24/7 with our call ratio around 200. We have had about 60 rescues (all evacuated by national guard), 80 gas leaks(detected by our company), a rough estimate of around 25 fire alarm and co activations, 2 structure fires, 5 water leaks and a couple water rescues. (even though all our rescues were in chest deep of water). Our VOLUNTEER company did a great job with a great group of guys. I am very proud of them and the community. Hurricane Sandy hit our town (Surf City) the hardest with winds up to 95 mph categorized as a category 2 hurricane. People who helped donate tons of food and clothing to our company, Thank You! Also The water got around 6 feet in most locations near the bay and the ocean met the bay in North Beach (still our coverage area) and harvey cedars. It was a grueling 8 days. And we did an amazing job from 49 ! I threw in a couple pictures BEFORE the storm. Because we did not run calls during the storm because of too dangerous conditions.

Kody if you need any help I have several firefighter, emt's available to respond to your area and assist you with your calls, and give you a chance to get some rest and slow down. Thank You! But out county has sent strike teams (tankers) from our county or other counties in NJ and were set. But I appreciate it very much and Im glad to see that our fellow brothers would come so far to help !

It's a bit far for us to provide physical help, seeing that we are at Phillip Island, Victoria, Australia (Home of the MotoGP "King Casey Stoner") , however we appreciate the great work that your team has done. We know what it is like to live through a "wild" event, but in our case it is bush fires, and we know the effort required to run and recover from these events. Our best wishes and congratulations to all of you, and if you want anything that we can provide from afar, then let us know. (Even if it is moral support for fellow fire-fighters). Thank you.

We are just waiting for the word to go alot of dept.s in upper nny has Vol to go ,but not quite for sure whats taking so long to cut us loose to go... Lots of fireman and Ems people waiting to get the go... When we had the Ice storm we was without power for almost a month and some people even longer.. Thank god for all the help we recieved from all the depts from down state and all.. So it always nice to give back when you can

We really appreciate it! Right now were set on crews but it would be a big help for other companies. We are mainly looking for any companies whom have tankers because of no water from the hydrants in most locations.

Our county has sent a few teams to the long island area for 72 hour deployment last week and I know of 2 more that are ready to go this week.
I myself was down there for work, we were deployed through last week to the long island and hudson valley areas. I am now working the state EOC bunker so if you need anything let us know and we can task it for you.
Stay Safe to all the brothers/sisters deployed down there now and in the future.

Thanks for all your help moose. Which state are you from ? Hows Long Island ? Long Beach Island got hit with 95 mph winds which really didnt do much but the flooding was 6 feet in most areas near the bay and more towards the beach 4 feet

From NY, I am near Albany and work for the State, and am also currently Captain (and just nominated the other night for 1st assistant chief!) of the Carlisle FD. I was in Hudson Valley area primarily, in Westchester county and Rockland county. Our team from Long Island told us the devastation out there was bad and they felt helpless. My father lives in Bayshore and he is OK but says there are house fires every day because of people hooking up generators directly to panels and they back--feed causing fires. Hope everything is ok with you guys Kody, keep us posted and stay safe.
