I have seen some fires so far and always when looking on the side i see the owners of the home that is set ablaze in disarray and hopelessness. What do you think is the best way to help these people through going through the process of recuperating their lives and if you would like to what encouraging words would you suggest for me to give to the people to really show them that it's not yet the end of their lives.
appreciate any replies and if you disagree that these people should be talked too at all by the fire department to please give us your input and reason why you suggest not to do so.

Alexander, sometimes words can not express or console the loss they may feel. Just by you being there and stopping the fire of situation from becoming worse is all thats needed. As Chief I have gone up to these people an have told them whats going on and that we are doing all we can do to save their house or belongings. Most cases however, they are just glad your there and the emotions of the moment will soon pass. Then the situation turns to grief anger and all the other emotions related to human behavior. Calling Red Cross or a local Church or friend can help also.
This is a very delicate situation knowing that if this isn't the worst day in their lives, it is pretty damn close to it. I am not sure what one could say to help comfort them, but, as a department, I think I would want to be as diligent as possible with salvage operations so that maybe all is not lost. The smallest thing could change their entire outlook on the whole scenario such as a few family photos, that one very special family heirloom, etc. Just my small take on the topic...I am still pretty fresh too!!
alright thank you for letting me know i hope safe times for you both and less chances for the homes we protect to have to take away the livelihood of the people who live in them.
