That's a good practice. I guess I've just gotten complacent over the years. I never went on any medical scene without my gloves on when I first became an EMT-B but now I just don't think about it.
I have a "glove keeper" attached to the upper left pocket of my bunker coat. If they aren't on my hands, they're in the keeper.
Once in 11 years I reached into my turnout coat and grabbed two left handed golves. I knew when it happened, we had just got back from a fire and i was changing into my second set of turnouts.....it was in the winter and wanted a completely dry set....when they struck the box for another fire. Grabbed my second coat and pants and reached in and grabbed my second set of gloves from my locker. Does it happen...yes it does, is it the worst thing in the world...no its not, did it stop me from putting out the fire....no it didnt.
I forgot mine once and i had to use the spare set on the truck and they was stiffer than a 2x4 so i keep them in my gear now
