How Many Can Remember Their First Call
The first call I answered in NY was a false alarm. My first call here in SC, I will never forget.
It was a structure fire where we lost a mother, and three children. It was a very difficult time
for the entire fire department. This is not the way anyone should have to answer their first alarm, but it happens. I can only prey that I don't have to come accross another alarm such as that.

The first call I made as a paid firefighter was to a tobacco shop that had a fire in the interstitial space above the ceiling. I was not able to do anything interior until 6 am the next morning. I got to play "gopher" the entire call. It was terrible. Get this, get that. Stand here so I can find you when I come out of the structure. I still get ticked off when I think about that night.

My first call was a alse alarm in a residential building.
My first working fire though...that made national news, maybe you heard about it, 44o Jefferson ave in Bellevue PA. I wasn't able to go in as I am not a structural firefighter yet, but it was still very intense. We arrived on scene to an apartment building with several residents hanging out of windows screaming for help. 23 people were rescued via ladders, countless others simply escorted out of the building. my first fire was an mva on interstate. vehicle was fully involved, no injuries. it was cool because i got to go with my dad, who's a lieutenant on the other company.

it here on FFN, That will be with you the rest of your life.

We had a structure fire once and our deputy chief had taken NyQuil before he went to sleep. When the call came out he tried leaving his house without any shoes on. Long story short his wife turned him right back around and told him to get back in bed. lol

my first call was a vehicle rescue; didnt have to use the jaws of life so i aint get my green ribbon or whatever it is... we kinda just threw a blanket over the guys head and drug him out the car.. gotta love how military men work (they where volunteers that saw the accident)
