how is that a volenteer is not recognized for there work
because we rnot full time thats why we just risk our lives the same as paid

Reg, That's why Bull McCaffrey is so recognizable, right?
Then again, he wasn't a career firefighter, he was just a character in Backdraft.

I make sure that I get the recognition I deserve as a career firefighter.
I hang my paycheck stub out of the window every time I go on a call.
Of course, it makes it difficult to drive the battalion rig, but the recognition makes me warm and fuzzy all over.
The standing ovations, showers of fresh flowers, and mothers offering their babies for me to kiss are getting a little old, though. If people only knew the soft, vulnerable person beneath the hero suit.

If you're looking for recognition, join American Idol... otherwise, hitch up your panties and get on with your life. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy getting a good pat on the back from people who appreciate what we all do, but if that's the only reason you're in this field then I suggest a hobby change...

Hope you are mistaken when you say most are in military for the pay or he means to an end. If that was the case I do not think so many would have joined up following 9/11. I hope most are fighting for patriotic reasons or we are in worse shape as a country then I think we are.

Good read on what I said. I was also refering to the age old saying that the soldier is fighting to stay alive and for his buddy, not necessarily the love of country. Many soldiers and firefighters have acted heroically but not all soldiers and firefighters are heros.
