With the cutbacks of budgets and strain on our economy what are you doing to help the Department survive. What are some of the things your agency is doing to cope with lack of funding? Are you losing crews as a result of the cutbacks? Re-Post!
Mayor / Chief cut Engine 7 and our District Chiefs lost their Aides. Engine 7 made at least 1800 runs last year. It was the oldest operating Engine House in the U.S. opened in 1858 and had never closed it doors til last month. Lost of the Aides means on working fires they are using a FF off an engine as Accountability Officer.
BAD STUFF for LFD.
We're a VFD on county contract money, we get 113k/year. No loses yet but the county commissioners suggest that we monitor excess fuel consumption and luxurizing items. I actually think theyre gonna add a few thousand dollars here in the next year or so.
We have operated the past few years on under 20K along with dues and bills. Some members have had to cut down on runs due to the increase in fuel to help offset their own bills. We stopped making runs outside our district.
What do you mean by the city taking grant money away? I know with FEMA if your awarded a grant, you had darn well better buy what you put in a grant for and nothing else. We got a grant for TIC's and accountability equipment 2 years ago. Im not sure if you guys are familiar with the Touch n Track system but they went under and we couldn't buy what we wanted, So our chief had to call and ask if we could just put the money towards the cameras since we couldn't get the accountability stuff. They were considering taking a percentage back of what we were originally awarded, but OKed it going towards the cameras
I am not sure that would be legal unless it wa awarded by the city in the first place. Like maybe 5 years agao they pleaged $5000 a year for next 10 years. Something like that. I am wiht Nick. You get FEMA money you better have the equipment that you listed you were gonna use money for if they stop in to see it. WE got a new engine in 2007 and used Homeland grant for it. 3 months after it arrived the feds came in to see how we liked our new truck they bought us and if we had any issues with it.
