i have my 1st erm final practicals today (monday) and they are on CPR, Intubation, O2 admin, and rapid trauma assessment. i was wondering if anyone had in advice, tips, or words of encouragement. also i am a 240 ff and am about to get brought onto a department for paid on call ff until my second term is over.

finally it seems like things are coming together for me. its been a long and difficult road(sometimes) to get to this point. and i am hoping things keep looking up. anyway thanks for any input and please all stay safe.

I know that it isn't easy, but the best advice is to just relax. Calm down and just remember to verbalize everything as you go through the practicals. Talking out loud can help you remember each step and prompt you for the next, plus it assures the instructor that you know what you are doing.

Best of luck to you.

thank you. the verbalizing part is something i need to remember. and like you said the relaxing part is easier said than done. thanks again.

if you dont mind me asking, how long have you been on the job?
RELAX RELAX RELAX!!!! Try to keep a clear head and remember the basics... those are the things we forget most often under pressure. Verbalizing each step is important to the instructor and makes it easier for you to get through the process. (Sound confident when talking about your next step.... if it sounds like you are asking the instructor rather then telling the instructor, they wont be so forgiving)
just do all your tasks in order. Dont skip around . take a deep breath and go man go. Bust of luck to you.
I've been on our vol. fire dept for 15 yrs. I became a first responder in 1995 and and emt-b in 1997. I let my emt-b cert expire in 1999 when I got married and just got it back a month ago.

I just passed my practicals and my written with in the last two weeks. Remember BSI Scene Safe and your ABC"S those are the big ones. Sample History and DCAPBTLS are big ones in your assesments. Cpr remember to move equipment away from patient so it is not toching them before shock and everyone clear. Intabation right amout of air into cuff/cuffs depending on what your approved to use. Relax talk yourself throu it. DOnt stress you have practiced for this. O2 admin remember to inflat bag on non rebreather 15 ltrs of high flow O2 for any trauma pt. A big tip is try to multi task ask questions while taking vitals get ya trough faster if ya can do it. GOOD LUCk Let us know how ya did
so i passed. thamnks all for the help and advice. just got back from vacation it was amazing. much needed. hope all are doing well.

stay safe
