so in nsfs have been told that we will be losing our 90 feeder hoses and just having 70s instead, whats everyones thought on this?? if we lose them we also will lose our ground monitors but in training we ran a ground monitor off two 70s and it worked really well and kept a good pressure, but also we would have to carry alot more 70s on the appliance to replace the 90s , just curious to what people think bout the 90s, although they a pain to flake i think they are really great

Please describe your hoselines better for those of us who don't use metric hose measurements and who use other terminology. Thank you.
a 70 is 70mm wide 25 m long we run that and a 45mm wide hose to the branch to fight the fire , the 90 feeder is 90mm wide and gets the water from the hydrant to the appliance :)
Ben means "what are they in inches!" LOL

I think Sarah is in the UK, so I'm not entirely certian, but in Australia:

90mm = LDH supply line. we don't use these, but I think they are 3.5 in diameter
70mm = 3" hose with 3" couplings - supply line
65mm = 2 1/2" with 2 1/2" couplings - supply, occasionally used for "surround and drown"

38mm - 1 1/2" with 1 1/2" couplings - primary attack line
25mm - 1" with 1" couplings (used only for mopping up brush fires)

Branch = nozzel
appliance = pumper

Don't worry Ben, I've been here for years, and I still have no idea what the hell anyone is talking about!
In other words, they're going smaller.
It would be interesting to know what the friction loss difference between the 90 and 70 is and pump pressures they use
maths was never my strong point lol Im from new zealand lol
very similar to Auzzie i think but have a 45mm as our attack line
yea getting smaller lol :)
we try to have 750 kpa at the branch, i'm jus trying to remember the friction loss for 90s i think 70s are 25 or 50 kpa and i know 45s are 150 kpa lol it always gets me confused lol

hey there

not lost them yet , we feed a 90 to a dividing breach then run our 2 70s normally, but we have run it with jus two 70s
