There's already like 2 or 3 discussions concerning this tool, just do a search. But, I do have one, the smaller 15" one. I carry it as a personal tool on my bunker pants utility strap. It does not replace any genuine firefighting tools, but has come in handy for me on a few occasions, and it is very very durable.
We looked at them for our USAR truck, but for that price you can get a bunch of framing hammers, pry bars, and other tools and stretch your money farther. A couple of our guys bought personal ones, but we don't have any on the rigs.
They sell them here in Australia too. They are actually designed more as a construction tool than a demolition tool.
Designed to assist carpenters in carrying beams, levering them into place, etc.
Yes, it's a good tool that could easily lend itself to doing some serious damage / prising open buildings or vehicles, but I think there are better options available.
I agree with you on this one. I also do construction and have swung this beast a few times. For the limited amount of use it would be able to get, it's not worth the cost. You grab the irons, I'll grab the z hook. Lets get to work. :)
thanks. I was thinking of it as a tool belt option. (smaller version) Irons are always first in for our team but are sort of bulky. Also thought of using them for mva's. prying hoods , punching a sawzall hole in the windshield, etc.
