Front Mounted Pumps

Just wondering if anyone out there is still using older style front mounted pumps? My department has a 1978 Ford with a front mounted Hale still in regular use. My page has a pic of it.

By me anything with at least 1000 gallons of water and a pump is called an "Engine Tanker". If it has over 1000 gallons and no real pump or hose or tools its just a tanker. When we call mutual aid it is usually for "Tankers and Manpower" being our entire district is without a water delivery system or hydrants, everyone has private wells and large ponds. We have 3 sites with a dry hydrant for "Tanker Shuttle Operations" but thats it.

I still like the term "Tender Pumper" though. LOL

We still run front mounts. We are a small town in Iowa. We have a 1985 Ford F700, a 1995 International and a 2010 International.

When our volunteer dept started in 1950 our first pumper was a 1930 front mount pump REO Speedwagon bought from another dept in our county. The pumper lasted for a while until the body was remounted on a used Ford chassis but the pump was junked. That was the only front mount pumper our dept ever had.
