I have been looking into some kind of forcible entry training prop for some time now and I think I finally have our Chief convinced that we need something. I am wanting to build something that is durable and that consumes a minimal amount of materials each time it is used. I have seen a couple of setups online that look really nice but they are horribly expensive. I am just wondering who has built their own and how you set it up (if you don't mind sharing your plans) Cost is obviously an issue but I also want it to be able to stand up to repeated forcible entry attempts.

Hey Mark,
Our County training center has something like what you are describing. The door fram is a steel door frame from like an industrial/comercial application. It is supported with a wide base plate under the frame, and the frame is secured to a seteel casing. There are triangular supports that angle from top of door frame to the front and the rear from each top corner making a right agle with the door/casing. The door are removed via the pins of the hinges so once the door is damage beyond training abilites, another door is easily attached. They stockpile used steel, metal, solid wood, hollow wood doors from anywhere and everywhere they can. Curbside during city, town or county spring cleaning, with permission from the dupsters of a job site where new doors ar being installed, commerial properties or industrial properties being torn down or new doors being put on. Anywhere they can.
Obviously, you could do the same with window frames/casings as well...
