FORT PIERCE, Fla.

Authorities say a group of St. Lucie County firefighters out collecting money for charity were able to stop a purse snatcher.

Police say four firefighters were in Fort Pierce collecting money for the Treasure Coast chapter of the Muscular Dystrophy Association Saturday when the saw a woman chasing a man later identified as 18-year-old Ezekiel A. Bennett and yelling that her purse had been stolen.

The firefighters caught up with Bennett and held him until police arrived just minutes later. They also traced Bennett's path back and found the woman's purse.

Bennett was charged with robbery by sudden snatching. He was later release on $10,000 bail.
