BUFFALO, N.Y. (
WIVB) - A situation sent hazmat teams to the Pearl Street Grill and Brewery, Monday morning.
For a while Monday morning, firefighters thought they were dealing with a hazmat situation. It turns out, they were dealing with a fire.
It appears a fire broke out in the basement, of the Pearl Street Brewery. The building was evacuated for a period of time, as fire crews did their work.
Initially there was some concern that there was chemical exposure from cleaning products stored in boxes in the basement, but that never happened.
Buffalo Fire Division Chief Don McFeely said, "We found actually no leaks and no air that was contaminated. Apparently, it looks like the boxes, the containers, which are cardboard had some burn patterns around them which would indicate maybe the acid inside the container leaked out and started a small fire."
Several firefighters were taken to the hospital as a precaution. But, fire officials are saying there was no hazmat situation at all.
The fire is now under investigation.
Workers are now allowed in the building.
