Passed my Fire2 Monday, I am ECSTATIC! Taking my Instructor 1 on the 26th of this month.I'm thrilled! I've been reading a book and taking a test on it at the end of the month since january and I've been blessed enough to have passed all of them on the first try. After I (hopefully) pass my instructor 1 I'm going to take a little break. I'm all tested out. I still want to get my officer 1 and instructor 2, and then my driver/operator-pumper. But those can wait til the end of the year. Just had to let this all out, I'm so excited!!!!

Just so everyone who decided to post on this for future reference. I have no intentions of becoming an Instructor right now. I don't want to be a captain/chief/etc. right now. I'm just ambitious and enthusiastic about furthering my education right now. I want to be on the end of a hose and atop a ladder and at the pump panel for atleast a good 10yrs. I enjoy hands on training and gaining the experience I need to be a better firefighter. I just want to knock out my bookwork/certifications/tests right now while I'm still young. Thanks.
Thanks Bull I appreciate the compliment. I passed my Instructor 1 and I'll be taking Instructor 2 on the 11th. I have no intention of ever stoping my training. I enjoy it as much as I enjoy doing my job. I am proud of my accomplishments and have many many more ahead of me. Maybe one day I'll be an officer, I have no problem being a leader, but the main thing is that I am a team player.
By the way Capt, I do teach a minimal of 2hrs each month at my department. And Towards the end of the year I'll be getting certified to do practicals through LSU-FETI which was my goal to be able to do for my department. So I would imagine I won't have any problem knocking out 10hrs a year.
Well my Instructor 2 Cert came in today, I'm thrilled, I took the class for Officer 1 and I'll be taking that test next month. Still no word on the City Department, their HR is way behind on things, but I've been told I have nothing to worry about. I've been keeping myself extremely busy with work since the truck bay fire, I worked from Tuesday 6a-Monday 7a. The work never seems to slow down. Anyone taken their officer 1 recently? I used to be in business management for about 3yrs. I've got my assoc. in business admin, so anything dealing with management comes to me real easily.

Thank you Mick I do appreciate the encouragement,
I'm weighing my options after I take my officer 1 next month. D/O-Pumper, EMT-B, and A.A.S. Fire Science are pretty much the last big things I want to achieve; that and one day when I'm in my 30s making captain. The EMT and my other certs count towards college credits for my Fire Science degree, so those are on my agenda.
The thing is, maybe I'm just tired of studying so much, maybe I exhausted from working so much after the fire at our station in the truck bay, or maybe I'm just wore out from having just got back from running, but I feel like I'm losing interest in this aspect of the training. The hands-on part I love and its fun and I get so much out of it. But the individual-learning and studying on my own is just so boring finding it hard to keep concentrated, focused, and enthused. Any advice?

You may have taken on too much all at once. If possible, complete the class you are in and take the rest of the summer off. If you are truely interested in the training you will start up again after the break. I did not even start in this line of work until I was 26. I am currently 48, a full-time captain and still taking classes. You are never too old to learn, don't burn yourself out!!!
