Fighting Fires in Storms

Does anyone have a policy that prohibits fighting fires in bad thunder storms. We always seem to get several calls for lightining strikes when a system moves through the area and inevatibly we get a working fire. Ilive in SC and we get bad storms in the spring and summer. I know that all fires are judged by risk vs gain, the risk including the weather. I have personaly fought fires that in hindsight we probably should not have been out in the storm.

So far since I have been on my dept. (3 Years) We haven't had any, but have heard them say fires don't care whats going on outside weather wise.

No, but it is an eye opener when it happens. My Asst. Chief and I spent the better part of the night in the ER after lightning struck next to the truck as a storm came in after a grass fire. It hurt to even think for about a week afterward.

Well if one of those storms that Count Frankenstein uses to make monsters is brewing around where you are trying to put out a fire, then so be it. If you live (which is most likely) it makes for a neat story. If you don't live then it makes for a story for the "Secret List".
