Stories like this make me sick.....they (arsonists) should get the maximum sentence allowed by law...especially those that were (key word...."were") Firefighters...They have slapped every Brother and Sister that puts it on the line square in the face....they have broken the Faith.....There is no excuse for this act nor is there any understanding what-so-ever.....Paul

A story I have read from Japan was back in the Edo Period about a woman that set fires and the punishment was to be burn at the stake.

This is indeed a sad thing. So wrong on many levels. They break the faith and the rules and yet we feel it's a bad thing towards the frie service. And, yes, it is, but, really we have no control of all these situations. Even through rigorous screening, they (arsonists) can still squeek through and do their damage. It's just too bad that people take that incedent as a reflection of that particular dept. It's not our fault. The harshest penalty available by law should definately be given to this individual.

A MALE volunteer would've been charged with lighting 50 fires, not a girly number like 30.... ;-)

The answer to your question (which alluded to Kali's post) is yes. While the sex of the arsonist is irrelevant, (and so is the arsonist's volunteer status) "female" doesn't fit the profile of the usual firefighter-arsonist. It's also true that most people don't think of a female when thinking of a firefighter. The only way this story could be more different from the typical profile would be for the female to be non-white and career. (But we career guys don't light 'em, we just fight 'em.)

Agreed Kali but the media knows that Sex sells and Bad Girls are sexy, to some (not me though, well maybe just a tiny bit).
PS Arsonist and especially FF ones make me sick.
