A FDNY Medal Day glimpse of two companies at a significant fire.

We'll let the video and news story links tell the tale. Medal Day 2012 will recognize, among many, Engine Company 201 and Ladder Company 114. Be sure to look at Dave LeBlanc's article about this fire in "Sometimes It's Not So Simple". Within that article, Dave takes on the purported idea that based on your sizeup of the exterior conditions you can rightly surmize that the people inside have perished.

Just a personal pet peeve, but I despise the term "winner" when it comes to service awards. The job is not a competition, but a profession, there is no game field or arena in which these incidents take place. These individuals did not go out and seek such accolades when the call came in, it was the result of their actions and the recognition for their efforts in which these awards are being presented.

There are no "winners" they are recipients.

John,

I have the same issues with winning military medals.  Medals are awarded, not won.
