Anyone here a Facility Safety Officer? I am one, and curious what other facilities mandate for training to be a Safety Officer. Any special training you have been through?

Check out NFPA 1521. What are they currently asking for and what has the previous person doing the job required to do?
Our ESD training facility has a roster of FSO's from which they hire to cover training evolutions. The only requirements here are that you have a minimum amount of experience (I believe it was 5 years), be a member of a participating department and attend an annual 8 hour refresher at the facility. We're required to be familiar with the NFPA guidelines, follow the facility SOP's and checklist and complete all applicable paperwork.
We have one safety officer per platoon. It's an assigned position for a Captain. If he's off for the day, another Captain will be detailed to the spot for the day. The office is run out for Engine 4 where they house 4 Engine, Air Unit 1, Special Operations Battalion Chief, EMS 4, Ambulance 4 and himself. It's a pretty big house for the department. The safety officer responds on all working fires, takes care of in house safety problems that need to be handled and to any apparatus crashes. Honestly, it seems that there's at least a crash every day or so. haha It's kind of just part of being in a big city though. It's usually a fender bender with no damage with no fault to the fire department.
