A recent post on the nation got me wondering about this question and so I ask for your input, How much information do you like for your dispatch to pass on , just a qick location and nature of call or one that details who is going and what is occuring with details on the building etc.
Our dispatch is automated. So we get a Female computer enhaced voice that does the intial dispatch. It gives us nature of call adress & grid location sometimes we get a cross st. Also if you don't mark responding on your MDT scree fast enough one of the human dispatchers will hit you up. We can get additional info from the human dispatcher if we need it.
Also we get all the dispatch info on our MDT screens. So if we missed somthing in the intial dispatch it's all on the screen.
The MDT also alows us to look and see any previouse runs at that loacation and info on it, hazards and if the Police have had to respond are RED marked to respond automaticly..ie in the case of a assault trauma or od etc. The MDTs are touch screen so you touch responding and the computer will say what you've touched. Responding, Onscene, avaliable. etc.
Also the MDT has map gps. Witch automaticly hilites the location of the run.
Just the street, cross street, and box number and a basic nature of the call, then they can add further on our rip an run sheet, as well as let us know more over the radio.
Thanks guys, we are on a shared dispatch and often the dispatchers have so much on the go that they can only spend the time to relay the basics. I'll dream about a system as efficient as truck 55's and realistically aim for one as good as Ralph's but it's good to hear how others roll.
We get the rigs dispatched, address, two cross streets, nature of call and "priority" code.
Sounds simple, but some dispatchers are better than others and our dispatching is done by the county, not the city, so the dispatchers rotate desks between county, city fire, city PD, etc.
So despite being clear text, we get the 10 codes for some calls by some dispatchers. Some want to give us a book report, so it can vary. Everything goes to the MDT as well as additional notes, but again sometimes there is too much, where pertinent info is better. On our MDT's we have all the rig statusshown as well, so you have to scroll down to see notes, and so if we want more info, we'll call on the radio.
Priority code is just the priority dispatch system that a computer spits out a response recommendation based on questions by dispatch. For us, they don't mean too much and we will upgrade or downgrade depending on the call.
So for me, I like a simple dispatch, address, cross streets, nature of the call. Additional info can be obtained enroute. Building info is part of our preplanning and that can be uploaded to the MDT....sometime in the future.
