7 here....5 in the field and scrubbed in on 2 c-sections....and contrary to what people say, child birth is not beautiful....it's disgusting! seeing that purple slimy alien looking head stickin out....yuck....but after they are cleaned up and given to mom, then it's beautiful.
As Bill Cosby said; "Like a wet St. Bernard going through a cat door."
First off lets get one thing straight....No one but the Mom "delivers a baby"....We as EMS simply assist her in doing so. This said I have had the honor to assist with 2....One was onboard a helicoptor outside of Fairbanks Alaska....the Doctor put on the birth certificate...Place of Birth...20 miles Southest of Fairbanks, altitude 800 feet. The second was at a home...simple enough (although scared shitless) assisted with delivery, dried the baby off, placed on Moms abdomen and transported both to the hospital...
is that for the crew or the patients...?
But, didn't you deliver them to the hospital?

Sorry, I'm in one of those moods!
Hey you old fart don't get me going...!!! LOL,,,they aren't packages or junk mail you know....I was mearly the expensive taxi crew....
Most of the field deliveries, and there have been a few, have really been uneventful. Usually if they are delivering the baby out before getting to the hospital they are on their second or more child. One thing i can say is the little one wasn't going to wait for us to get to ER. The only complications have run into has been a couple of nucal cords. More common than I thought.

With all the other trauma and illness we deal with it is a wonderful event.

Yeah, I guess the phrase; What can (insert ambulance color) do for you, just doesn't have the same ring as the slogan that brown delivery service uses.
with the economy in the crapper UPS and Fedex are combining services....it will be called..........ready.........I warned you......Fed-Up.........LOL
Paul I agree the mom does most of the work. I have assisted cows, dogs and cats in birth it kinda takes care of its self.
Humm, I wonder if I would get in trouble if I gave the baby to the mom and let her chew off the cord and let her lick it clean?
I teased my nephew about when his twins were born about picking them up by the feet and shaking them up and down like we do calfs to get the airway clear. He came out of the delivery room mad as all get out, Because the doc did just that.
Also are dog once went to have her puppys she jumped up on are bed I grabbed her to get her off the bed. She let out a little soft yelp and shot a pup out like a rifle, I kid you not it went three feet. LOL
I've delivered 12 over my 31 years as a Paramedic. All have been no big deal. Mom does all the work I'm just there to do the catching.
