LEADVILLE, Colo. - A city fire captain was arrested and handcuffed during an emergency call last weekend, the latest twist in a dispute between city officials and the Lake County sheriff.

Fire Capt. Dan Dailey was released about an hour after his March 27 arrest. District Attorney Mark Hurlbert said prosecutors will decide next week whether to file charges.

Dailey said he went to the sheriff's office in Leadville to help after an ambulance was summoned for a woman who went there with a neck injury.

City officials said deputies arrested Dailey after he refused their orders to leave.

Fire Chief Robert Harvey said Dailey's decision to go to the scene was appropriate.

"The fire captain was monitoring the radio and responded to the emergency call," he told The Denver Post.

Sheriff Ed Holte was out of the office Friday, his staff said. He didn't immediately respond to a message left on his voicemail by The Associated Press.

The city and sheriff have been at odds over who should provide emergency protection outside Leadville.

Leadville firefighters cover the entire county under an intergovernmental agreement that expires in December. Mayor Bud Elliott said Holte wants his deputies to be trained as firefighters, which would allow them to essentially replace Leadville firefighters outside the city.

The commissioners scheduled a meeting Monday to discuss Dailey's arrest.

Elliott said he and a police officer are now on call to be observers on all Fire Department calls.

sounds like a bunch of cops whos badges are bigger than thier brains
More info would be good....
try the cpff.org website. They have an article on this. Hope it helps clear some things up.
I think they need to observe the Longmont Police and Fire Depts and see how a team works together.
Sounds like a bean counter is at work.
Now, when the FD gets on the scene, they fight fires and call the cops for anything that needs law enforcement. What happens IF the cops are "fire fighters" doing that and a violent call goes out or this scene turns into a crime scene? Is the hose dropped and the gun drawn?
What will they patrol in? Ever get pulled over by a fire truck for a driving offense?

Cops are cops, fire fighters are fire fighters, EMS is EMS. There are times that they overlap- fire medics, TEMS, but hoses and guns should not mix.
well it seems the police officer was getting back at the f.d. for getting the boot [ lol ] and as far as police officer's doing fire calls they have enough on there plate with law enforcement duties you drive your police car and we will drive our fire trucks and ambulances i would like to say more but i would get in trouble for what i have to say but i support the fire dept on this one
Economic downturn created this power play...... Hey let's train the cops to be firemen, kick out the firemen who currently respond and then the cops can have more justification for their bean counters.
Sounds like it is time for a new sheriff. We had a police chief like that once was a real nightmare for firefighters in our department..
As I said in a previous post when they pin those badges on they need to pin on a larger amount of maturity. I really hope that some civilians get on the side of the fire department and support them. The politicians will pay attention to that.
LMAO
Must have small dicks therefore have to carry guns to make up for it.....Sure let this bunch of idiots handle Fire calls....I wonder how many will kill themselves or worse...someone else....? If it were me they arrested I would push the limit and demand a jury trial...lets go public boys....then file a civil suit...let them see what its really like to step on one's dick.....BUT...It's probably just the doughnuts talking.....
I have to watch what i have to say since I work for the state but i do think this is BS
HAHAHA i like how you put that Paul
