Choosing the Best
Every firefighter comes to a point in his/her career that he/she has to make a choice. Although it may seem like a small detail or decision to make, it can have a significant impact on his/her performance. With that being said I bring up my topic of discussion on choosing the best station boot. Firefighters in general spend most of their time working at the station. Sweeping, moping, cooking, and training. All these add up to hours and hours on our feet. Choosing the best station boot can be a very important decision that is often overlooked. The municipality often offers boots/shoes in the uniform order that comes around once a year. Most cities/counties (typically) won't put in much time or effort researching the best boot for their employees, and often times it falls back to the firefighter to purchase the boot on his/her own dime. It is my goal in this discussion to bring up the best station boots that you have ever used. Please comment what you think and explain why. Thanks

I have owned Bates and 5-11 station boots. Both were 8 inch high versions with side zippers. They were not the cheapest nor the most expensive models but both were very comfortable. I wore the Bates for almost 2 years before a seam blew out, I have had the 5-11'sforabout a year and a half now. The only reason I didn't buy Bates again is because they didn't have my size in stock.

I am currently using a pair of Thorogood Station boots and have been for about 3 years now but at the time I was doing maybe 2 12 hour shifts a week but also wear them on a regular basis out side of the fire station. Havent had any issues so far with them blowing out, but did wear out the factory insoles about a year into it. I also have a pair of Thorogood Wildland boots that are lace up that I have also used for station wear that have lasted the same amount of time but mostly wear those in the summer and fall months while we are in wildland season. Another pair that I have used in the past are the Danner 8 inch boots

Thanks for the comment. When it comes to Wildland boots I'm very partial to Nick's Hotshot Wildland boots. I spent a lot of time in those boots in 2011

Thanks for your comment. I wear a pair of 5.11's now. they are decent boots but they are beginning to bust at the seams and there is practically no tread left on them. I want to see what else is out there before picking the pair to buy

Nicks is what i normally wear for wildland but the difference of 300 bucks in cost between the two was a big factor a few seasons ago when they told me my nicks couldn't be rebuilt anymore, What I had done with my nicks is have them put zippers in place of the laces to use them for both wildland and station wear during the summer and wore a pair of Danner's in the winter for the insulation. now im to cheap to buy either lol
