I'm trying to get ideas for a proposal to our District Board. What do your fire Departments or Districts of Volunteer/Paid Per Call pay your Chiefs and other Officers. Currently our Chief gets paid $1,000 a year and the Asst. Chief gets paid $500 a year. The Captains and Lieutenants dont get any pay. The amount of Hours put in by these people are very high and take lots of time away from their families. I feel they should be compensated for this. Just trying to get ideas what other Departments pay. Our District is made up of 3.5 Townships and we runs approxiamtely 300 EMS Calls and 100 Fire Calls per year. We have approximately 60 members in the District including Officers. My proposal is going to be the following and i would like to know if this sounds reasonable.
Chief: $3,000 per year
Asst. Chief: $1,500 per year
Captain: $500 per year
Lieutenant: $250 per year.
Yes. We run two Stations with approx 30 out of each station. We dont staff at all, it is a volunteer department. Yes i agree our Department is a little top heavy but unfortunately that is how the District Board has set it up. We operate on $250,000 a year with good carryover every year. Considering the Board is made up of Twp Trustees who make roughly $7,000 a year for less hours than the fire officers put in that doesnt sound unreasonable pay.
