CHICAGO (AP) -- Chicago officials say two firefighters have been taken to a hospital in fair to serious condition after they were briefly trapped in a fire.
Fire officials say the firefighters were battling a blaze at a two-story building on the city's South Side. Department spokesman Quention Curtis says a "may day" call was issued, indicating firefighters are missing.
He says the firefighters were in a first-floor stairwell when the floor collapsed and they fell into the basement.
Curtis says the fire began at about 3 a.m. Friday in the basement of the building, which has one commercial unit with apartments above. Officials say it was out by 3:30 a.m.
