Hate Ice! Flipped a tanker on it's lid about 10yrs ago during an ice storm. Paved roads weren't bad. Gravel roads, Holy S. The road we were on was like a roller coaster. You had to keep it under control going down and try to time the speed to make it up the next and try to stop perfect as to not slide backwords or slide down the next. I got to a point where I thought the road leveled off after the next hill. Wrong hill, tried to get over into the rough the road grader left but our ass end broke loose. I looked at my rider and told him we were going over 10 seconds before it even happened. Yes it happend that slow. That's a sick feeling when you know what's gonna happen and but can do squat. Ditch had 6ft of snow so it went over nice and gentle. I respect the hell out of ice now. We just had ice here in south central iowa tonight.
Pretty much everything. we live in a cold climate for 2/3 of the year. I've had to wear ice grippers on my boots, slid down a driveway to a med call, and been stuck to a line during a 3 alarm in -36 (celcius) temps. It's not unusual, but you sure count your blessings on the really cold days when you don't have to sit on an exposure line or direct traffic waiting for police to arrive on scene!!
We had a house fire a few years ago and after we had the fire out and was cleaning up my gear and my partners gear froze solid from being wet and we could not even bend our knees to get into the jump seats.
My brothers and cousin had to lift us up into them.
